GEORGE STAVRINOS

(1948-1990)

George Stavrinos is most famous as a fashion illustrator, notably his architectural drawings of clothes and furs for Bergdorf Goodman. He worked for Push Pin Studios, Barney’s, the New York Times, Gentlemen’s Quarterly and the Metropolitan Opera. But his homoerotica is also significant, appearing in the original, highly creative, version of Blueboy magazine as well as After Dark, in advertisements for gay businesses, and for the legendary Paper Moon greeting card company. Along with Antonio, Stavrinos was the last of the legends working in the golden age of fashion illustration, which, like so much illustration, was supplanted by photography.
