Working in the administrative offices of In Touch and then Advocate Men, Jerry Mills was also commissioned to create a comic strip that moved from one to the other publication when he changed jobs. The strip, Poppers, is considered the first gay comic to portray multi-faceted characters rather than stereotypes, and influenced other gay comic artists like Howard Cruse and Glen Hanson.
